Five Policemen among seven martyred in blast near Balochistan Assembly

QUETTA: At least 07 including five Balochistan Constabulary (BC) personnel were killed and 16 injured when a suicide bomber struck Forces’ truck on GPO Chowk a heavily guarded vicinity of the provincial capital on Tuesday evening.

Balochistan Constabulary (BC)’s personnel were being standing down after performing their duties of Assembly’s No-Confidence session when a suicide bomber believed to be on feet blew himself near Security Forces’ truck.

As result of a noisy blast 07 people including five BC men were killed on the spot while 16 among 8 Security personnel sustained injuries.

“Due to Assembly Session the vicinity of Balochistan Assembly were completely cordoned-off and heavy contingent of security personnel were deployed, the attack occurred after the Assembly proceedings ended.” Inspector General (IG) Police Mozzam Jah Ansari told media men after visiting blast site.

Rescue workers and Law Enforcement Agencies rushed the spot and shifted the bodies and injured to Civil Hospital Quetta. The Hospital was completely cordoned-off by Frontier Corps and Police soon after the suicide attack.

More than 900 Police and Balochistan Constabulary Personnel were deployed inside and outside the Zarghoon Road to protect the Balochistan Assembly’s no-confidence session.

Refuting speculations that the suicidal wanted to hit the Assembly Session IG Police said, the actual point of the blast is completely on opposite direction of the assembly, “The attack happened after almost an hour later of Assembly proceeding that indicates, the suicidal targeted Police force guarding the people of Balochistan.”

Former Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti strongly condemned the suicide attack and tweeted that, “The latest terror attack in by terrorists is an attempt to portray negatively amidst Chief Minister’s resignation. Fight against terrorism will continue despite the change of government in the province.”

Bashir Ahmed a witness of the blast said, we were stuck in traffic blockade after all roads leading towards Assembly was completely shut, “Soon after traffic resumed we heard a powerful explosion and my three friends sitting with in a car received injuries.”

Police Investigation Team including Bomb Disposal squad confirmed that the suicidal was on feet and a large amount of explosive and ball bearings were used in the blast as shattered windows of vehicles and debris strewn near the blast site.

Tehreek e Taliab Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility of the blast as they carried-out numerous attacks including bomb blast and target killings in Quetta.

Medical Superintendent (MS) Civil Hospital Shahjahan Panezai said, at least 16 injured have been shifted to Trauma Center while emergency had been declared in the hospital minutes after the blast.

Many Assembly members were presented inside the Assembly when the blast occurred.
