QUETTA: The Balochistan National Party President, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, has said that the Government and its establishment would be held responsible if BNP leaders, activists and supporters are harmed in any part of Pakistan.
Delivering the key note address at the condolence reference for the Martyrs of August 8 at the Quetta Press Club on Tuesday, he claimed that the Government had refused permission to hold this reference gathering at a public place compelling us to hold the reference in the four walls.
Paying glowing tributes to the martyrs of Quetta Civil Hospital, the former Chief Minister of Balochistan said “we have lost outstanding personalities and young and promising intellectuals in the suicide attack on lawyers on this day last year.
He criticized the Government for celebrating the Independence day amid death and destruction and people offering condolence to their dead and dear-ones. He cited the example of Arab countries discarding the celebrations following the massacre of innocent and unarmed Palestinians by the Zionist forces.
“ The Government is rubbing salt on the deep wounds of the people by celebrating the independence day,” the former Chief Minister of Balochistan said. He said that the martyrs were Pakistani citizens and they were not foreigners, nor they were agents of a foreign country.
“People, including the close relatives of the deceased people did know why they were targeted and killed and what was their fault?” Sardar Mengal posed a direct question. They were targeted and killed in the name of Islam, he said. On this pretext, he added, millions were dislodged from their homes all over the country and lawyers were also martyred.
The BNP leader said that benefit had gone to those elements who are opposed to rule of law and constitution and in all conditions they wanted to cling to power on permanent basis.
Sardar Mengal said that it was the lawyer community that toppled down a military dictator and they struggled hard for independence of judiciary and rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution.
He said a score of commissions were formed to probe the mega sensitive issues and reports of all the tribunals are not made public. One of the tribunals including an investigation into the Tutak mass grave found in Central Balochistan years ago.
The former Chief Minister said that the Government could not tolerate a shutter down strike all over Balochistan to register the opinion of the people on the massacre of lawyers and others in Quetta on this day last year. He clarified that the shutter down was not against anyone else but against the terrorists.
He said shutter down strikes are being observed when Kashmiris are killed in occupied territory and not for the local people killed in Chaman or Chagai.
Sardar Mengal said that Fatima Jinnah’s elections were rigged and she was defeated and thus we are insignificant in the electoral battles.
The reference was also addressed by Asma Jehangir, Asghar Achakzai, the Provincial ANP President, Dr Abdul Hayee Baloch, Abdul Wahid Baluch of the BNP (A), Reza Advocate from the Hazara Democratic party, Shah Mohammad Jatoi, President of the High Court Bar Association, Nadir Chalgari, Secretary General of the Bar, Kamal Khan Kakar, President Quetta Bar Association, Ramzan advocate, Ali Kakar and Nazir Baloch.
