QUETTA: Provincial Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti has claimed on Wednesday that security forces arrested two men in Gulistan planning to carry-out suicidal attack on Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai.
Addressing a news conference accompanied with DIG Quetta Abdul Razaq Cheema, Provincial Home Minister Mir Sarfarz Bugti said, on a tip-off Law Enforcement Agencies and Police launched an operation in Pak-Afghan bordering area Gulistan and arrested two men planning to attack on Governor Balochistan,
“Two men Hamid Bashir hailed from Punjab province and a local facilitator Munwar Ahmed were arrested and they were planning to carry-out suicide bombing on Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai during his visit to his native village.
During the raid a large cache of weapons and explosive including two suicidal vests and land mines were also confiscated from their compound.
“The Qari group now based in Afghanistan has planned to attack and kill Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai and the suicidal had to come from Afghanistan.” Sarfaraz Bugti said and added the group was involved in killing of Ex-Home Minister Punjab Shujja Khanzada.
Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai is elderly brother of PK MAP Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai and he was appointed as Governor Balochistan in 2013.
Home Minister said, Governor Balochistan has a very high symbolic political values among people of Balochistan, Forces’ timely respond has foiled another high-profile attack in the province.
Replying to query regarding attacks against high-profile personalities in Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti said, the provincial government is taking measure to protect our high-profile government officials,
“We are going to purchase bullet-proof vehicle for all high official including Police Officers, and the Federal Government will assist in terms of taxation wave in it but indeed there is a high-level threat but we are taking preventive measures.”
Talking on the investigation of Methodist Church Attack, Mr. Bugti said, our Intelligence Agencies and Police are investigating the church attack even we are taking assistance from Punjab Forensic team as well, “National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has responded negative regarding figure prints of the attackers that indicates they were not Pakistanis.”
Talking on Security of Christmas and Churches Security DIG Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema said, security plan has been finalized of security of all 39 churches in Quetta and we had held a meeting with the elders of Christian Community.
“The churches will provide us volunteers and a special security card will be issued to all volunteers, Christians in Police force are allowed to perform their responsibility for churches’ security if they are willing during Christmas celebrations.” Cheema added.
